In conjunction with the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute at the University of Melbourne, Springer Nature carried out an Australian launch event for the 2018 launched Nature journal - Nature Sustainability - https://www.nature.com/natsustain/

Nature Sustainability is edited by Monica Contestabile, an environmental economist with previous experience as Senior Editor at Nature Climate Change and at WWF-UK, where she led research on sustainable consumption.

Here in part 1 (of 2 ) of our coverage of the launch event Monica Contestabile, introduces Nature Sustainability, discusses the need for this important new journal, the aims and scope of the journal and provides information about publication guidelines.

About Nature Sustainability
Launched in January 2018, Nature Sustainability ( https://www.nature.com/natsustain/?sa...) publishes research that contributes to a deeper understanding of how we organise our world with finite resources, and the multifaceted impact of our actions. Beyond fundamental research, the journal attracts studies of policies and solutions to ensure well-being for humans and other life on this planet. Its aim is to facilitate important cross-disciplinary dialogue around sustainability and narrow the gap between research and policy making to ensure the real-world impact of research.
